Payable Forms - How to Set a Handling Fee

Love the convenience of online payments but feeling the squeeze from processing fees? You've come to the right place! Keep reading to see how easy it is to configure a handling fee on your Payable forms to offset your overhead costs.

Step 1 - Open an incognito browser window

Many of our support queries stem from the issue of multiple active Google accounts in your browser window - Google add-ons can only be managed by the account that's installed them. So, to prevent you from potentially receiving any frustrating error messages (and to save you the trouble of signing out of other accounts you use regularly) please open an incognito browser window, go to forms.google.com and sign in only to the Google account your form is managed by, and open your form.

Windows, Linux, or Chrome OS Users: Press Ctrl + Shift + n. Mac Users: Press ⌘ + Shift + n.

Step 2 - Open the Payable sidebar

Look for the puzzle piece icon in the top header tool bar to re-open your add-ons.

Step 3 - Navigate to your Checkout Settings

Once the Payable sidebar opens following the above steps, click on Checkout Settings to access these settings.

Payable Forms - No Recent Order Found

After you or your user clicks on the Payable Forms checkout link, if after waiting 50 seconds, Payable does not receive any new order data from Google, we will display a Sorry - No Recent Order Found message to the user, like in the image below.

When this happens, it is because Googles System is not updating our system after the Google Form submission.

This can happen typically for one of four reasons:

Google is having some intermittent issues or a delay in firing the onFormSubmit Trigger. If we receive the trigger anytime after 50 seconds, an email will automatically be sent to the form submitter with a link, and no further action is required. Check your connected Google Sheet to see if Order IDs are populating in the Order ID column. If they are there, you are good to go. 👍- If not, read on.
The Google Form was Not Toggled on as "Make this Form Payable" during setup or experienced an error at initial setup.
You duplicated another / previous Payable Google Form, and you have the wrong form link on your confirmation message. Make sure you "Sync Theme" in the Getting Started steps to ensure each form has the correct confirmation message link.
The Google Form onFormSubmit Trigger has become corrupt or stopped working and must be regenerated.

Help with PayPal In-Line Guest Card Payments

When a seller / administrator connects a PayPal Standard account as their payment processor, you will a see a checkout option labeled "Debit or Credit Card" listed as an option in the smart payment buttons.

This card checkout, the inputs, and validations and error messages are entirely controlled by PayPal. Payable Apps, as the platform developer, sadly has very limited ability to debug this particular card checkout experience.

This card checkout is designed for casual sellers in order to offer a PayPal "guest" checkout experience, but it has some limitations. This version of card checkout can cause issues/confusion when a buyer does not remember/realize the email address or credit card they are trying to use is already associated with a PayPal Account, but just wants to use their card directly. With the in-line guest checkout, PayPal will want this user login instead of using a known card as a guest.

||| Trying to "test" your own checkout with real payments? PayPal does a good job of blocking known devices, IP Addresses, and cards that are associated with the receiving PayPal Account so people do not pay themselves. When testing your first live order, it's best to send it to a friend or family member to use their own unrelated device and card.

Common Solutions with Payable Forms

In this article, we will review some common problems and solutions when getting set up with Payable Forms.

1 - "Something Went Wrong" or "Authorization Required" Permission Errors during Messages During Setup

Google Add-Ons are sadly not compatible when multiple Google Accounts are logged in to the same browser. We made this video, which talks about some troubleshooting generic setup errors..

||| Do you use more than one Google account frequently? Sometimes simply logging out of a second Google account will not be enough, and the user sessions can still get mixed up. Try these steps, even if you think you're only logged into one account.

To solve please do the following:

1. Open a new "Incognito" Chrome browser window. This is how.
2. Go to https://forms.google.com and login only with the account you wish to leverage as the email sender and owner of the Form and Sheet.
3. Re-open the Payable Forms Add-On if it's available. If it's not, re-install it for this user.
4. Retry the setup steps and hopefully, the Error message will disappear.

Getting Started with Payable Google Forms

So you want to create a Google Form that also accepts payments? Awesome! You have come to the right place.

Step 1 - Installing the Payable Forms Add-On

Head on over to forms.google.com and if you do not have a Google Account, click the "Create account" button to get setup.
Click here to get the Payable Forms Add-On from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Select the "Install." For most cases, "Individual Install" will work fine. If you are an administrator and you want to install this application for the entire domain you manage, you can use the "Domain Install" instead.
Once the Add-On is installed, go back to a Google Form in Edit Mode and refresh the page. Look for the puzzle piece in the title bar to appear, and select it. You should see the Payable Forms Option. Select "Make this form Payable".

Step 2 - Setting up your Google Form for Payments

Add money amounts in the correct format to the answers in your Google Form.
Follow the getting started steps in the sidebar to (Auto Configure Form and Sheet, Sync Theme, and Connect a Payment Provider)

How to turn off Test Mode

Turning off Test Mode is relatively simple. These are the three steps to do it:

Step 1 - Go back to your Google Form in Edit Mode

Go to https://forms.google.com while logged in only as the installer of the add-on, and open your Google Form in Edit mode.

Step 2 - Re-Open the Payable Forms Side-Bar

Look for the puzzle piece in the top header tool bar to re-open your Add-Ons.

Step 3 - Turn Testing Mode Off in the Sidebar

The Payable Forms Sidebar will open and in the sidebar, switch Testing Mode to "Off"

If you receive an error at this point, or you have turned off test mode but your orders still generate as such, it is most likely due to multiple Google Accounts being logged into the same browser, or a mismatch of the original Installer account and the one you are using now. In this instance please open an incognito browser window, sign in only to your form's Google account, open your form and try again.
